Well we’ve had a bit of a break and now it’s time for us to get back to working on this thing! TouhouFest was a huge success for us, so we want to capitalize on that momentum. We have a lot in store for the first stage demo and we’re excited to share it with everyone.
Loads of Levels
We actually have a ton more levels designed than what you saw in our TouhouFest demo. Around 15 or so total and we’ll be adding more secrets to all of them. Many are probably not final, though. There’s been an issue for a while where the Bamboo Forest doesn’t really feel like a bamboo forest. It’s too mountainous and inexplicably full of caves that don’t have back walls? So we’re also planning to give it a facelift at some point after the stage 1 release. Probably as an update between stage 1’s release and stage 2.
Final Boss
For everyone who struggled against Cirno, I’m happy to tell you that she is only the mid-boss of the Bamboo Forest. We have a two-phase final boss about 50% done that we’re also really excited to see finished and everyone struggle against. In the full stage, Cirno will be the one who drops the fireball ability and this final boss will drop a new ability that some of you are probably already familiar with, the dash. I think it really opens up the combat when you get it, so I think you’ll really enjoy it. And don’t worry, there will be some more level after the final boss for you to try out your dash on.
Miscellaneous
With all these new levels, you’ll need a map to keep track and I’m happy to say we have one in the works. You’ll also get the first taste of our story and I think you’ll be intrigued. On that note, we’ve also been considering a “story mode” where Mokou has infinite health and you can just enjoy the story without dying. It would be quite easy to implement and so if there is considerable interest in an “easy modo” we’ll just add it.
Anyway, I’m going to get back to work and I’ll be excited to share what we’re working on as development progresses! Streaming is going to be paused for a little bit due to my current living situation, but should be back towards the latter end of May.
